Getting there

How to get to Schönbrunn Palace

U4, trams, bus and the airport run — with the walking times nobody mentions.

The U4 is the simple answer

Take the U4 green line to Schönbrunn. It runs from Karlsplatz in about twelve minutes and the station sits on Schönbrunner Schloßstraße, roughly five minutes on foot from the main gate.

Trams 10 and 60, bus 10A

Tram 10 and tram 60 both stop at Schönbrunn, as does bus 10A. They are slower than the U4 but drop you closer to the Hietzing side of the grounds, which is the quieter entrance.

From Vienna airport

Allow about an hour. The quickest routing is the S7 or the City Airport Train into town, then the U4 westbound. A taxi is around half an hour outside peak traffic.

The walk nobody budgets for

From the station barrier to the palace entrance arch is five minutes on an empty pavement and closer to ten on an August morning. If your slot is binding, leave the extra ten minutes in your plan.
